On Friday, we got a temporary storage and delivery request from a well-known European transport company and learned a lot in the process!
What was their problem?
Their truck was in a small delay, and it was about to miss the working hours of the warehouse.
There were 2 options.
1️⃣ The first was to leave the truck and the driver in the Netherlands over the weekend.
2️⃣ The second was to find a warehouse in the Netherlands that could finish the delivery.
Guess what they choose? They chose to look for a warehouse on StoringCargo.com.
What were they looking for?
They wanted to find a short-term warehouse in the Netherlands, in the Arnhem region.
They had 4 EURO pallets to store over the weekend and deliver the goods to their customer on Monday morning, for a fair price.
We found a warehouse only 16 kilometers away from their customer. Check them here. The price for storing from Friday to Monday was only 52,00 EUR, already visible on the platform.
The next step was to get the price for the transport service.
We requested transportation price by submitting warehousing and delivery details as seen below:
We got an offer for 110,00 EUR that together with storage rounded up to 178,50 EUR for 4 EURO pallets in a safe Indoor warehouse with final transport to the customer.
The cost of a truck-driver weekend stay in the Netherlands is a few hundred Euros, so the decision was clear.
After receiving the quote dispatcher simply confirmed the price and the cargo was loaded into the warehouse in a matter of minutes.
Because the truck was empty so quickly, the dispatcher managed to find a new order for the driver to deliver on the way back and earned something extra.
We are sure, the dispatcher earned at least 400€ extra 🙌.
At 10:15 am on Monday, we were informed that cargo was successfully delivered to the final location, and received the invoice for payment that was formerly completed at the time of booking.
It takes approx 10 minutes to book and arrange everything.
Once all this was finished, we took the time to make a quick analysis and figured out that transport companies many times need a short-term warehouse.
Usually, they need it because of the delay (warehouse is or will be closed), preload need (cross-docking), inaccessible loading/delivery with specific types of trucks, or when they want to “earn more” by optimizing the groupage transport.
